Abstract:
This dataset contains major and trace element concentrations and Sr, Nd, Hf, Pb, and U-series isotope compositions for alkaline samples from Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira volcanoes in the DR Congo, along with three analyses of alkaline volcanic rocks from Uganda and Oldoinyo Lengai. Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira are active and dangerous volcanoes and these data will be used to assess eruptive cyclicity and to evaluate volcanic hazards. Additionally, these data will provide information about mantle sources and magmatic processes at Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira. This study provides important insight into volcanic hazards in the region, small-scale mantle heterogeneities, and the origin and evolution of alkaline magmas.
