Abstract:
This dataset contains whole rock analyses of samples from 10 Cenozoic plutons on Viti Levu, Fiji. It compiles analyses from nearly 50 years of graduate research projects investigating the origins of continental crust-like plutons in an island arc setting. Methods for characterizing the bulk rock compositions primarily include XRF and ICP-MS, and, for a few samples, Emission, Gamma, and Spark Source spectroscopy. Radiogenic isotopes of Sr, Nd, Pb and Hf are also present for a subset of these samples, analyzed by MC-ICPMS and TIMS. This contribution also provides new U/Pb ratios and ages, trace element compositions, and Hf and O isotope ratios for zircons recovered from 13 of the pluton samples, plus 2 detrital sand samples. U/Pb ratios were measured by both SHRIMP and LA-ICPMS, at three different laboratories – Australian National University (ANU), National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR), and University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). The NIPR and UCSB measurements are of grain interiors, whereas the ones from ANU are for grain surfaces. Hafnium isotopes were measured by LA-MC-ICPMS at ANU, UCSB, and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) labs, trace element compositions were measured by LA-ICPMS at ANU and UCSB, and oxygen isotopes by SHRIMP at ANU. Finally, the dataset includes analyses of 16 volcanic rock samples of the Miocene Wainimala Group into which the plutons intrude and from which some of them are derived. Previously published data for these and related samples are in Gill (1987).. All of these data are referred to, and plotted in figures, by Marien et al. (2021).
