XANES, XRD and Raman-spectroscopy data on Mn-rich phases on Lunéville château sandstones (patinas and bulks)
Abstract:
Lunéville château, in eastern France, presents Mn-rich dark patinas that developed either under natural conditions (rain and time) or after an accidental fire and exposure to significant volumes of water as part of attempts to extinguish the fire. The presented dataset characterizes both types of patinas in an effort to determine their formation mechanisms and Mn sources. In both cases, Mn required for patina formation likely derives from the reductive dissolution of Mn-rich minerals present in pristine sandstones, as suggested by the contrasting mineralogy and chemistry of Mn-rich phases present in the bulk and in the patina of a given building block.
This dataset presents micro-XANES, micro-XRD and micro-Raman-spectroscopy data measured on Lunéville patinas but also on the Mn-rich areas in the sandstones bulks. The micro-XANES and micro-XRD experiments were conducted at the synchrotron SOLEIL facility, in LUCIA and DiffAbs beamlines, respectively.
