Nd-Sr isotopic compositions of detrital extracts, Akiyoshi Limestone (Japan)
Abstract:
Nd-Sr radiogenic isotopic compositions of fine-grained detrital extracts (<180 micron) and large single grains (5mm - 2cm) from the Akiyoshi Limestone, Japan (Moscovian and Ghzelian) were obtained as provenance indicators of Late Paleozoic atmospheric dust sources for the Akiyoshi Terrane. Provenance interpretation of these materials allows reconstruction of atmospheric circulation patterns and dust sources in Pangea during maximum glaciation. The Akiyoshi Terrane is one of only a few remote ocean locations (Panthalassa) that archive this Late Paleozoic dust signal.
