Whole rock and melt inclusion data from South Island, Lake Turkana

Abstract:
This dataset presents bulk major and trace element analyses of Holocene volcanic rocks and melt inclusions from unit S4, South Island, Turkana Basin, Kenya. These, used in combination with olivine and melt inclusion major and trace element data, help establish that magmatism in the Turkana branch is similar to that in more mature parts of the East African rift, and that rifting in the region is currently driven by magmatism, as described in related publication doi:10.1144/jgs2021-160
