Abstract:
The Mascarene Islands in the western Indian Ocean, encompassing La Réunion, Mauritius, and Rodrigues, are the recent (<10 Ma) surface expressions of the Réunion volcanic hotspot. Ocean island basalts (OIB) from these islands display a remarkably limited range in long-lived radiogenic isotopic compositions that generally overlap the convergence field of many global OIB trends in the mantle array. This dataset presents whole rock Sr-Nd-Pb isotope compositions together with major and trace element abundances for OIB samples from all three Mascarene Islands, which were collected during a field campaign in 2007. Major and select trace element abundances were obtained using X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF), along with measurement of loss on ignition and ferrous Fe abundance by titration. Strontium isotope data was acquired using thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), whereas Nd and Pb isotope as well as other trace element compositions were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The purpose of this dataset is to characterize the persistence of Réunion plume-like and enriched signatures across the Mascarene Islands chain.
