Abstract:
Upper Paleozoic, probably Permian, komatiites have been found in the Paleo Tethys suture zone in NE Iran. These komatiites play a crucial role in constraining the thermal evolution of the mantle throughout the Phanerozoic. Analyses of major and trace elements, along with geochemical studies of these rocks, yield important insights into the melting conditions of the hottest regions of the mantle.
