Abstract:
The mafic to ultramafic Emigrant Gap complex and associated granodiorite expose Jurassic ultramafic to silicic intrusive rocks in the northern Sierra Nevada batholith, California. This dataset comprises whole-rock chemistry (major and trace elements) measured by XRF (major elements and volatiles) and LA-ICP-MS (41 trace and rare earth elements) on fused glasses created from rock powders of samples from the locality. 83 samples from the Emigrant Gap complex, including dikes and associated granodiorite, and 4 samples that are metasedimentary rocks in contact with the complex, were analyzed and are reported here. 6 additional samples of rocks from the nearby mafic intrusive locality at Black Buttes were also analyzed and are reported as well. This dataset also comprises mineral chemistry (major and minor elements) measured by EPMA in polished thin sections of chromite, olivine, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, plagioclase, Fe-Ti oxides, biotite and amphibole from a representative subset of rocks of the complex. Average compositions of each mineral type in a given sample are reported, measured on one or more grains from that sample. Where multiple populations (texturally identified, i.e., interstitial grains or distinct core/rim compositions) of a given mineral were identified, they are separately averaged and reported.
