Abstract:
Glass from the Uwēkahuna Ash (200 B.C.E. to 1000 C.E.) and adjacent lava flows of Kīlauea volcano, Hawai‘i were analyzed via electron microprobe for major and minor elements and by laser ablation – inductively coupled mass spectrometry for trace elements. Samples include the Kulanaokuaiki Tephra Member (Units 3, 4, and 5; 850 to ~1000 C.E.), Kīlauea “Hot glass”, and other Uwēkahuna Ash tephra. The analyzed lava flows are the Hornet Kīpuka (720 to 970 C.E.) and Kīpuka Nēnē (350 to 190 B.C.E). Data release includes sample and methods metadata, secondary standard measurements, analyses, and models. Major element distributions were modeled using MELTS_v1.2.0 (Ghiorso and Gualda, 2015), and crystallization models for trace element distribution were modeled using Rayleigh fractionation.
