Abstract:
Field investigation and mapping of tephra-fall deposits from Misti volcano, southern Peru, reveal at least ten explosive eruptions occurred during the late Pleistocene to Holocene. A subset of three of these deposits were targeted for modeling Mg and Sr diffusion in plagioclase in order to constrain recharge-to-eruption timescales. Analyses were collected as spots along transects placed perpendicular to plagioclase zoning; most but not all transects are taken from zoning nearest the rim. Electron microprobe analyses (EMPA) were collected first followed by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) over the same transects. This data release contains the following plagioclase major element concentrations collected via EMPA: SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, Na2O, and K2O. It also contains the following trace elements collected via LA-ICP-MS: Li, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Ti, Fe, Sr, Ba, La, Ce, Eu, and Pb. We also report standard reference material concentrations analyzed during the same sessions as the unknowns.
