Abstract:
This repository contains the supporting datasets associated with an experimental investigation of the hydraulic, elastic, and microstructural responses of three rock lithologies, micritic limestone, granodiorite, and trachybasalt, to cyclic thermal shock treatment. The dataset includes permeability measurements, compressional-wave (Vp) and shear-wave (Vs) velocity measurements acquired under confining pressure, time-lapse scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imagery, mineralogical characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and associated uncertainty analyses. Experiments were conducted on intact core samples subjected to repeated heating and quenching cycles designed to induce thermally generated microcracking. Measurements were collected before and after thermal treatment to quantify changes in transport properties, elastic-wave velocities, and microstructural damage. The repository additionally includes derived quantities such as percent changes and per-cycle changes in permeability, Vp, Vs, and Vp/Vs, together with metadata describing experimental conditions, measurement protocols, and analytical procedures. Supporting materials include detailed descriptions of pulse-transmission velocity measurements, experimental workflows, lithology-specific SEM image series documenting crack evolution, ultrasonic waveform data, and literature-based compilations of thermal and elastic properties for constituent minerals. These datasets provide a comprehensive resource for investigating the relationships among thermal stressing, microstructural damage development, permeability evolution, and elastic-wave behavior in heterogeneous rock materials.
