Abstract:
This dataset contains the new analytical data of the Musala pluton of the Mundwara alkaline complex (Sirohi district, Rajasthan, northwestern India), a small body of essexites, nepheline melasyenite and nepheline syenites intruded into Neoproterozoic granites, which belongs to the Late Cretaceous alkaline magmatism that preceded the Deccan Traps. Six samples were collected on the Musala hill: an alkali basalt dyke, a syenitic dykelet, two essexites, a nepheline melasyenite and a nepheline syenite. The dataset includes the whole-rock major and trace element compositions determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission and mass spectrometry after lithium borate fusion (Activation Laboratories, Ancaster, Canada), with the detection limits and the analyses of ten reference materials; the strontium, neodymium and lead isotope ratios of the same samples measured by thermal ionisation mass spectrometry at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, Osservatorio Vesuviano, and at the University of Naples Federico II; the compositions of olivine, clinopyroxene, feldspars, nepheline, sodalite, analcime, amphibole, mica, iron-titanium oxides, titanite, apatite and monazite obtained by energy-dispersive spectrometry on a field emission scanning electron microscope at the University of Naples Federico II; and the in situ laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry rubidium-strontium analyses of the biotite of the nepheline melasyenite, with the reference materials of the analytical session, measured at the John de Laeter Centre, Curtin University, which give a crystallisation age of 70.9 +/- 1.7 million years. The data underlie the article "From Essexite to Nepheline Syenite: Crystallisation Conditions, Fractional Crystallisation and Crustal Contamination in the Musala Pluton, Mundwara Alkaline Complex, India" (Journal of Petrology).
